Day 3
7.2 miles, 687ft gain/2685ft loss, fitbit data: 19,792 steps, 49 floors.
Why is the data so different than the day in, like elevation gain and loss?? Not sure, barometric pressure perhaps, so I’m just leavin’ it in the way the unit recorded it…
Another sunny day on tap, up early so we can get home and beat the inevitable heavy traffic over the pass…The morning is still, hardly a breeze, and this appears to be all the encouragement the little blood thirsty denizens needed, for we were swarmed this morning. Definitely worse than the 2 previous days. It’s all the urging we need to get breakfast over with quickly so we can be on our way. On the trail by 7:15am, and it’s a quick 3 hour jaunt back to the car, but not before stopping once again at the Katwalk. This time, since we’re here fairly early in the morning, we have the place to ourselves to take some pictures that we missed doing on the way in. Back on the trail, we gradually begin passing more and more hikers, runners, and backpackers on the way up. One older gentleman with an accent that sounded as if he was from Australia, said that he was back to complete this last section of the PCT, having completed everything up to this point. Kudos, mate! He seemed to be carrying a heavy load, and sweating profusely under the strain. Hope he makes it!
Back to the car by 10:15am, and off to find a burger joint in North Bend. All in all, a really good hike, definitely worth recommending and we will be looking at heading to Spectacle Lake next year to you know…Take in the spectacle!
