Day 2
13.97 miles, 1286ft gain/2524ft loss.
Today, we hike out, and the weather looks to be cooperating with us. We take some final pictures of the chalet before heading out on the long trail home. For the most part it’s uneventful, and we’re just looking forward to getting back to the truck and getting to town for a much deserved burger and shake after such a long trek out. We arrive at the trailhead a little worn out, but excited that we were fortunate enough to have good weather here in the Olympics, where usually, the weather norm is wet, grey, and damp.
We all agree that it was worth the trip up to see the Enchanted Valley and its chalet, a very rare thing that far into the backcountry. It also gives us grandiose ideas about returning to this wild section of the Olympics, for perhaps more forays into the high country, the ice and snow that lingered above us on the bare granite peaks beckons, pleading for more exploring…
